Middle School Spanish

Level A Spanish, conducted in English and Spanish, is designed for students with no previous Spanish background.  Students gain insight into the importance of Spanish in the global community and begin to understand and appreciate the Spanish-speaking world.  Students begin to communicate with their peers using the vocabulary, grammar, structures and verb forms learned in class in the context of varying themes like friendship, school, sports, leisure activities, food, family and clothing.

Students in Level B Spanish engage in understanding and sending messages through speech and writing reinforcing all grammar aspects and verb forms learned in level A.  Vocabulary is enhanced as students listen to stories from cassettes and videotapes and read short stories appropriate to their level.  Instruction focuses on the home, health, community, entertainment, and the environment while exploring the different cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

Students in Level C, conducted in Spanish, enhance all the skills in comprehension, speaking, listening, reading, and writing by watching an instructional videotape television series, Destinos.  Students hear Spanish from native speakers of different counties while following a compelling story.  A textbook and a workbook accompany this tape and are utilized throughout the course.

All three Spanish courses utilize Blackboard as a learning tool for practice in communication in writing.
