Ibrahim Daoud, ACS parent, raised children who were taught about their food at home with a holistic approach to food and where it came from….
from raising herds and farming produce, to hunting, gathering & cooking in the wild, and the most important value…
the respect for all living things and the appreciation of the food we are blessed with.
One of the most essential tools we need in life, often gets put on the “back-burner”, until we find ourselves in a college dorm, staring at a microwave and a frozen box, or a parent in front of an empty lunchbox at 6am on a school day.
Our children need these tools, to learn how to care for themselves and their bodies, which feed their minds. Packing a lunchbox full of brain-boosting, local food, and knowing where it came from and how it was made... keeping them healthy and happy, sends them off with a great start for the day and eventually for life.
We’ve reached a point where we no-longer know what our food actually looks like in nature, on a tree branch or as a root in the ground… this kitchen compliments the incredible efforts of the elementary school garden (past the big toy, then the little playground, behind the building). Take a tour!
The Classroom Kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge, oven, pantry and tools to get you started. Manufactured in Jordan, designed by an ACS parent, with sponsorship & support from the American company that changed the world, invented the stand mixer and changed how we prepare food, a 100 years ago this year; KitchenAid: the support will be on-going, KitchenAid will continue to support the school. We truly hope that every elementary school class room at ACS uses the kitchen at least twice each semester, I’ve had amazing experiences through the years in my kids’ classes, growing micro greens, making hummus, salads, smoothies, pancakes & waffles and even healthy hot chocolate! We’ve used cooking in science, math, reading and writing… and we hope to see the classroom kitchen built-into the elementary curriculum so you’ll never hear your child say “what’s that?” At the produce section.
