Curriculum and Pedagogy

ACS provides students access to an American curriculum that is founded in a U.S. standards-referenced structure, through the American Education Reaches Out (AERO) Common Core standards*. These standards are supported by the U.S. State Department's Office of Overseas Schools to assist schools in maintaining an American standards-based curriculum and are purposefully designed for curriculum consistency from Kindergarten through grade 12.

The American curriculum offers a broad and balanced educational approach supported by a wide range of co-curricular activities. This approach organically feeds into ACS’s mission to inspire individuals to become self-motivated learners, who act with compassion, demonstrate respect, act with integrity, and seek intellectual growth in a culture of high expectations.

Through a hands-on challenging program, we develop students who are critical and analytical thinkers; who are creators and innovators; and who are effective communicators and collaborators.

High school students can choose from more than 23 open enrollment Advanced Placement courses as of 10th grade, giving them the opportunity to apply with confidence to all universities across the globe.  ACS also offers the AP Capstone Program where eligible students may graduate with the AP Capstone Diploma in addition to the American High School Diploma.

Our dedication to our mission and student profile includes educating the whole child and extends beyond classroom academics. ACS’s wide range of co-curricular activities and athletics truly support the student experience in creating balance in life and to develop their own sense of self.

*These standards include

  • Common Core Math, Common Core Language Arts, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), National Core Arts Standards (NCAS), The Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) standards, The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards. ACS also uses the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3 Framework) for our Social Studies courses
