FAQs
ACS students in grades 5 through grade 12 bring a Family Provided Laptop to school daily.
Portable computer devices can be classified into several groups:
Apple MacBook: Laptop computers designed by Apple. They are manufactured in two models from lower to higher performance in perspective, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.
Notebook: The general term for a full-sized laptop that maintains a balance between portability and functionality. These can vary in size and specification (processor speed, storage capacity, memory (RAM), screen size, etc).
Chromebooks do not meet minimum requirements and ACS does not recommend purchasing or using a Chromebook in grades 5-12. There are many limitations of a Chromebook to the point where the device interferes with learning opportunities.
It is recommended to provide a carrying case or sleeve.
If your child is enrolled in a World Languages class, we highly recommend providing a keyboard with characters for this language. This might be in the form of stickers placed on the keyboard.
For our IT department to support your child with computer troubleshooting, we need to have full admin access to the computer. If parents decide to configure parental control on a student's computer and would like our IT team to support it, they need to provide the IT department with the passcode to override parental control.
The following specifications run on any operating system:
Antivirus: Computers should have active Antivirus protection software updates regularly.
